Nestled in the heart of the beautiful village of Ardfinnan, Co. Tipperary, stands a building rich with history and family memories. Once the bustling family grocery shop, it had been empty for years—rundown, eerie, and an eyesore in the center of the village. It wasn’t just a building; it was a symbol of my childhood and a place that held so much potential.

From Run-Down to Revitalised

After the shop closed, I continued baking from my home kitchen. But something kept pulling me back to that building. It deserved more than to sit empty and forgotten. I wanted to breathe new life into it, to transform it into a space filled with joy, creativity, and, of course, the smell of baked goods.

A Dream with a Twist

As a child, I dreamed of becoming a primary school teacher. Moving from England to Ireland at age 10, I quickly realised that not knowing the Irish language would be a hurdle. Teaching in a traditional classroom seemed out of reach, but my love for teaching and creating never faded.

I wasn’t the sporty type growing up; I much preferred spending my time creating things. That creative spirit stayed with me, and when the opportunity arose to combine my passion for baking with teaching, I knew I had found my calling.

A Hub of Activity

Today, my studio is a hub of activity, especially when it comes to hosting children’s baking events. From Halloween to Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and beyond, there’s always a seasonal event on the horizon. These events are filled with laughter, learning, and lots of sprinkles.

One of the most popular offerings is the children’s baking birthday parties. The Pizza & Cupcake party is a hit, where kids get to craft their own pizzas and decorate cupcakes. It’s a recipe for fun and creativity, and seeing the joy on their faces is priceless.

Letting the Adults In on the Fun

Lately, I’ve expanded the fun to include adults too. Parent and child events, team-building activities, and social gatherings are now regular features. It’s been wonderful to see adults enjoying the creative process alongside their little ones or colleagues.

For those with serious baking ambitions, I also run more focused cake decorating workshops. These sessions are designed for aspiring bakers looking to turn their passion into a business. Sharing my journey and helping others take their first steps in the baking world is incredibly rewarding.

A Space for Community and Creativity

Transforming this once-rundown building into a vibrant cake studio has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. It’s more than just a place to bake—it’s a space where creativity, community, and sweet memories come to life.

Whether it’s a child’s first attempt at decorating a cupcake or an adult honing their cake decorating skills, every moment in the studio is special. I’m proud to have brought this building back to life and to share it with the wonderful community of Ardfinnan.
