After sharing the story of how Sugarcoated by Lisa came to be, I thought it would be fun to dive deeper into what my business offers and how it all began. So, grab a cup of tea and let’s chat about cakes, family traditions, and a whole lot of sugar!

Humble Beginnings in the Family Shop

My journey into baking started in the most unexpected way—right in the heart of our family grocery shop. Back in the day, I’d whip up home-baked goodies like apple tarts, scones, and cupcakes to sell alongside the usual groceries. It wasn’t long before customers began asking for more.

What started as a few baked treats quickly snowballed into birthday cake orders. People loved the personal touch, and I found myself baking more and more custom cakes. It was a learning curve, but it sparked a passion I didn’t know I had.

From Home Baker to Bespoke Cake Maker

When the family shop closed in 2014, I transitioned to baking from home. Taking bespoke cake orders became my new focus, and I quickly fell in love with the art of cake making. Every order was unique, and I loved the challenge of bringing someone’s vision to life.

Over the years, I’ve had the joy of being part of so many special occasions. From wedding cakes to baby showers, christenings, and children’s birthday cakes, it’s been an honour to create edible memories for families. Some couples have trusted me with cakes for multiple life events, from their wedding to their children’s birthdays. It’s a privilege to be part of their journey.

Keeping Up with Trends and Techniques

Even though my cake school is a big part of what I do now, I still take bespoke cake orders. Why? Because it keeps me on my toes. Staying up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques not only keeps my skills sharp but also enriches what I teach in my cake school.

Whether it’s mastering a new buttercream technique or creating intricate sugar paste models, every cake I make is a chance to learn and grow. And let’s be honest—there’s something magical about crafting a cute cake for a baby shower or christening. I have a soft spot for sugar paste baby animal models. They’re just too adorable to resist!

A Sweet Blend of Passion and Tradition

What I love most about this journey is the blend of passion and tradition. Baking started as a way to contribute to our family shop and evolved into a thriving business that lets me share my love of cake with others. Each cake I make is a piece of that tradition, a little slice of my family’s history, and a whole lot of heart.

Whether you’re here for a bespoke cake or looking to sharpen your baking skills in my cake school, I’m thrilled to share this sweet adventure with you. Here’s to many more cakes, classes, and special moments to come!
